Not the easiest crew to assemble at the best of times. You need a guy with a low funky Southern growl to be Stills (but still needs to be able to hit the high notes in the 'It's my heart.' section), a jazz loving Everly Brothers fan who used to be in the Byrds, and a castrato English gent on the high vocals. I do think they are amazing.Īs far as a standard template goes, I'm not convinced. Judy Blue Eyes, on guitar in some wacky EBEEBE tuning or similar, is based heavily on one note, yet they find so many to sing. Also, during the early years at least, they put great emphasis on all singing round the mic together as the way this disrupts the air is better than them all doing it individually. They will have at least doubled their vocals on the recording. Stills does the melody, Nash does the high, and Crosby find the weirdest notes he can inbetween the two. so I'm sure theres a standard harmony template the followed when writing this stuffĭude you need more than one of you to sing their stuff! How do I learn to harmonize? I'm pretty sure these guys aren't bach- by which I mean inventing anything new.
